The Connecticut State Society of Anesthesiologists

URGENT REQUEST!

The Connecticut Department of Public Health is proposing to delete a section of state law that provides for the use of deep sedation in a physician's office that is not licensed as an outpatient surgical facility. According to the Department, they no longer license physicians to administer deep sedation in an office setting, but do license outpatient surgical facilities to administer deep sedation. The only exception to this rule of the use of deep sedation is in a dentists office.

CSSA supports the administration of anesthesia in a safe environment that provides patient access to medically necessary procedures. We would like to know if any members of CSSA currently provide deep sedation in a doctor's office that is NOT licensed as an outpatient surgical facility. Please contact us at cssa123@yahoo.com if you currently believe you are licensed to provide deep sedation in an office setting that is not accredited as an outpatient surgical facility. Thank you.

Keith J Ruskin, MD
President
